How should Swedish municipalities cope with service and welfare while the population grows older and urbanized? It is the starting point of the Municipal Inquiry made on behalf of the Government and which is now presented.
One of the proposals is for the state to take over debts from municipalities that voluntarily carry out municipal mergers.
- We must remember that very much we do many municipalities together today. We are a number of municipalities in northern Dalarna that have joined forces with a joint fire department, so we are merging municipalities everyday anyway, but not in the way we talk about now merging and changing municipal names and such, says Ulrika Liljeberg.
