The “plane man” Vince Reffet took off on Friday before flying at an altitude of 1,800 m in Dubai. This is a world first, produced by the 34-year-old French sportsman experienced in extreme challenges.

So far, the thirties and his cronies of the "Jetmen" have launched themselves into the air by jumping from elevated platforms. In a press release, the organizers of the Universal Exhibition 2020 in Dubai describe the event as "historic" in the "quest for a 100% autonomous human flight".

Up to 400 km / h in the air

Vince Reffet flew a few meters above the waters of the Gulf before climbing to an altitude of 1,800 m. He then opened his parachute at an altitude of 1,500 m. To achieve his feat, he was equipped with a carbon fiber wing powered by four mini-jet engines. Controlled by the human body, the equipment allows the Jetman to reach speeds of 400 km / h, to hover, change direction and make loops.

"It is the result of an extremely meticulous teamwork, where each small step has generated enormous results", explains the "plane man". “Everything was planned down to the second, and I was delighted with the progress made. One of the next objectives is to land on the ground again after an altitude flight without having to open a parachute. "

The French "Jetman" is used to extreme records. With his acolyte Fred Fugen, he crossed the famous Porte du Ciel at the end of 2019: an opening 130 m high and 30 m wide near Mount Tianmen in southern China.
