  • The central kitchen agents reported the presence of rats in the central kitchen, which in particular prepares canteen meals.
  • A rodent was effectively trapped on February 11 at the scene.
  • For the Capitol, which maintains controls, the problem "now seems to be resolved".
  • But the FO Municipaux union, which alerted the CHSCT, requests a thorough inspection of the building.

A hanging rat, stiff, trapped in the door of a stainless steel compartment. The photo, broadcast Monday evening by France 3 Occitanie, was taken on February 11 in the space reserved for food trays at the central kitchen of Toulouse, the municipal establishment that prepares meals served to pitchouns in the canteens, agents, or restaurants for seniors.

The first traces of rodents on this necessarily sensitive site were noted on February 5 by agents who gave the alert. The town hall confirms that a rat was effectively trapped on February 11, the day after the intervention in the premises of the municipal hygiene and health service to place traps and bait. “Since then, several baits have been positioned to monitor the situation on a daily basis. A technician passes by every day (…). The problem now seems to have been resolved, "said the Capitol at 20 Minutes, while specifying that control is maintained .

35,000 meals per day

The incident, however, caused some concern since it triggered on the part of the FO union, majority in the town hall, an "alert" to the Health, Safety and Working Conditions Committee (CHSCT). "The presence of rats is already worrisome in a private restaurant, but it is all the more so in a public establishment which prepares 35,000 meals a day", underlines Pascal Maynaud, the general secretary of the municipal union. He considers that "the incident is over" and that the services have "shown reactivity".

But the official also calls for "vigilance" around "this relatively old building which has given rise to adjustments over the decades". "Now," he said, "we are asking that we go around the building with paper and pencil and that we detect the slightest crack and all potential entry points." Especially since there is work near the central kitchen, a commotion likely to disturb rats and encourage them to make their hole elsewhere.
