SVT News has met Uighurs in Sweden whose relatives are in the Chinese province of Xinjiang.

Today, Uighurs live mainly in the independent region of Xinjiang in northwestern China. They make up about 45 percent or 11 million of the population. Reports from human rights organizations speak of widespread persecution and forced displacement of Uighurs.

In 2018, it was discovered that up to one million Uighurs are in camp in Xinjiang. The Chinese state calls them retraining camps and identifies the Uighurs as potential terrorists.
