• In six states, 12 ultra-rightists arrested for suspected terrorism in Germany

The alarms against the terrorism of the extreme right have returned to jump in Germany, this time with the arrest of 12 individuals, all nationals and among them a policeman, who was preparing a chain of attacks against mosques in up to 12 different locations.

"What has come to light with these arrests is terrible and reflects how quickly radicalization occurs in the extreme right circles," said Interior Ministry spokesman Björn Grünewälder.

The Government of Chancellor Angela Merkel has announced through her spokesman, Steffan Seibert, that measures will be taken to protect all places of worship and ensure that the practice of religion in this country is done freely, without fears or threats. "That is a state mission , " added Seibert, who strongly condemned the plans of that group of extremists. Until now, only synagogues receive special protection from the police in Germany.

The detainees are available to the Federal Prosecutor's Office, based in the city of Karlsruhe, for being the only one competent in cases of terrorism offenses.

The arrests occurred on Friday during a police operation in several federal states. Four of those arrested, including the police officer, while suspended, were in North Rhine Westphalia. The operation was launched after the leader of the group exposed to the accomplices captured on the internet the attack plans. One of them turned out to be an agent of the Interior's secret services.

The leader of this cell had planned to attack following the model of Christchurch, in New Zealand, where 51 people died in two mosques. He was the only one known in neo-Nazi circles and was being watched.

According to data from the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution, in Germany there are 12,700 right-wing individuals willing to commit violent actions, a figure that denotes the magnitude of the threat facing German society.
