The number of new cases of coronavirus in China 's Hubei province rose Monday after a decline in the past two days, despite the authorities' decision to impose new severe restrictions on movement, to prevent the spread of the disease that has killed more than 1700 people so far.
Health officials in Hubei Province, the epicenter of the virus, reported 1933 new infections and 100 deaths Sunday, the lowest number of deaths on a daily basis since February 11, and the number of infections rose about 5% from the previous day, but deaths decreased.
Almost 90% of the new cases were recorded in Wuhan, the capital of Hubei Province, with a population of about 11 million, and it is believed that a market in which wild animals were sold without a license is the focus of the virus.
Across China, officials said the total number of cases increased by 2,048 to 70,548 people in total, and that the number of deaths reached 1770.
Health officials said on Sunday that the decline in the number of confirmed cases during the previous two days showed that their efforts to stem the spread of the virus had paid off, but international experts said it was too early to say that the disease had reached its climax.

Among the over 70,000 cases on the Chinese mainland, 10,844 people were successfully treated and discharged from hospital.
The number of confirmed cases outside China reached more than 500 people, most of whom came from Chinese cities, in addition to the death of five injured people.
The authorities tightened restrictions further in Hubei yesterday, by preventing the movement of vehicles except for essential services, and informing companies to remain closed until further notice.
New condition

For its part, the Saudi Ministry of Health confirmed the safety of the ten Saudi students coming from the Chinese city of Wuhan two weeks ago, and that they were free of the new Corona virus, as the second sample that was taken from them and the result of Sunday appeared healthy.

"The ten students left the quarantine after reassuring their health and safety and undertaking all required medical procedures," the ministry said in a statement.
The Ministry reiterated that no new infection with the new Corona virus has been recorded in the Kingdom, asking everyone to contact the 937 Health Center in the event they want to inquire about the virus, stressing that information is taken from its official sources.
The Health Directorate in the city of Jeddah, west of Saudi Arabia, announced the evening of the day before yesterday, Saturday, the suicide of a student residing in the Kingdom after he was detained in a hospital on suspicion of being infected with the Corona virus.
