IVO also announced that a penalty order could be made if the hospital does not take any action, something they have now done.

- In the past, we have prioritized that we even out the number of patients between the departments so that no department has received more overcrowding than anyone else. We stop doing so now and instead prioritize putting patients in the right ward. Surgeon patients should be placed on the surgeon's ward and medicine patients on medicine. We do this even if it means that there will be an uneven load between the departments, says Bengt Cederlund acting chief physician at Södertälje Hospital.

In IVO's criticism, it was also stated that events in Södertälje have occurred that have led to serious injury damage when patients have been located in other departments. Chief physician Bengt Cederlund welcomes IVO's criticism.

- We appreciate that IVO comes and looks at our processes. We think it's good, it puts focus and they look at different problem areas within the healthcare system and then this is one of the problem areas that they have looked at, ”says Bengt Cederlund.
