February 17, 2020 At least 24 people were killed and 18 injured in an attack yesterday involving a Protestant church in the village of Pansy in the Sahel region of northern Burkina Faso. This was announced by the governor of the region, Colonel Salfo Kaboré, through a statement.

Among the victims there is also the pastor of the church. The governor said that the commando broke into church during Sunday service, identified and separated local residents from those who weren't, before killing them.

Last Thursday another religious had been kidnapped together with four members of his family before being killed near Sebba, the capital of the same province of Yagha. In recent months, the Christian population of Burkina Faso has been the victim of numerous attacks by Islamic terrorists belonging to Ansarul Islam, the Group for the support of Islam and Muslims and the Islamic State in the Greater Sahara.

The news was also confirmed by the mayor of Boundore, Sihanri Osangola Brigadie, who specified that the attack occurred in the town of Pansy in the province of Yagha and added that three other men would have been kidnapped. The attackers' command was made up of about 20 armed individuals who ransacked the local shops from which they stole oil and rice. Three local boys were forced, arms in hand, to carry the attackers on their motorcycles. Both Christian and Muslim men were killed and the church was set on fire, a security source said.
