Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said on Sunday that Tehran will not hold talks with the United States under pressure, adding that Iran's help is necessary to achieve security in the Middle East.

Rouhani said in a televised news conference that if the United States returns to the nuclear agreement and sanctions are lifted from Iran, then it is possible to sit at the negotiating table with them, considering that Washington realized that it had made mistakes in dealing with Iran.

He added that his country will not submit to pressure on negotiating the nuclear program, and considered that security and economic indicators showed that Iran had bypassed American pressure.

The Iranian President stressed that "establishing peace and stability in the sensitive Middle East region and in the Gulf is impossible without Iran's assistance."

Last January, Rouhani considered that European countries were responsible for any breaches that violated the nuclear agreement, and set his country's condition to fulfill their obligations under this agreement, stressing that Tehran was never seeking to acquire a nuclear weapon.

He said that those European countries - referring to Britain, France and Germany that are still involved in the nuclear agreement - bear the consequences of any decision they make or in breach of the terms of the nuclear agreement.

In response to what it considers failure by France, Germany and Britain to implement the terms of the 2015 nuclear agreement, Iran has gradually reduced its obligations under this agreement, which guaranteed it to lift sanctions in exchange for curbing its nuclear activity, after Washington withdrew from it and imposed severe sanctions on Tehran.
