February 15, 2020 "Beware of Valentine's Day malware". Once again, hackers have tried to exploit one of the most popular occurrences to access our data on the mobile. WhatsApp is in the crosshairs, newspapers and IT security companies have warned: if a code from an unknown number arrives to get you a love massage, be careful, do not click!

The same company, owned by Facebook, warned against possible scams with a note: “WhatsApp will never ask for a code to be entered, therefore we recommend that all users never reveal a pin code to anyone, or to disclose private or financial information to anyone, unless it is someone you know and trust ".

Hackers never sleep
Was 'Valentine's Day malware' a real danger? "It is necessary to carry out a specific verification", explains engineer Pierluigi Paganini, cybersecurity consultant and founder of Cybaze, "but on that day, as for years, you can see themed messages that spread viruses". It is therefore a good idea to take care to open attachments only if received from reliable sources. The case - presumed or true - of the espionage of the iPhone by Jeff Bezos , founder of Amazon, infected - as far as we know - by a video sent via WhatsApp, speaks volumes about the risks.

Two billion users
The latest statistics on the use of messaging apps, cited by Messengerpeople, show that WhatsApp has reached 2 billion users worldwide (confirmed by the head of the company Will Cathcart in the Wall Street Journal), while Messenger (also owned by Facebook ) has 1.3 billion users and the most popular app among the Chinese, WeChat, has recently reached one billion and one hundred million daily active users.

With an 84% penetration among internet users, WhatsApp is by far the most popular messaging app in Italy. In January 2019, there were 54.80 million active Internet users in Italy - 92% of the population - of which 85% access it via smartphone.
