The Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Center has announced the registration for participation in the first global experiment in which the UAE participates to simulate life in outer space, part of a series of experiments of the "International Scientific Research Project in the Unique Earth Station", known as "Sirus". The Emirates Space Simulation Project, which will last eight months, will be held at the Russian Experimental Space Research Complex (NEK) in Moscow, and comes within the framework of the “Mars 2117 Program” aimed at building the first human settlement on the surface of the Red Planet, by the year 2117.

The international scientific experiment bears the name "Cirrus 20/21" and provides an opportunity for Emirati youth, from various scientific fields, to be part of a pivotal experience that will lay the foundations for designing and implementing future space missions, and draw a road map for exploring Mars and other planets, and will contribute mainly to Developing local capabilities to contribute to the implementation of the Mars 2117 program. The project focuses in its various phases on studying the effect of isolation and staying in one place for a long time, on human physical, mental and psychological health.

The General Director of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Center, Yousef Al-Shaibani said: “The UAE is keen to make effective contributions that support global efforts related to space research and exploration, and thanks to the wise vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai - Which was the basis for setting a long-term strategy to make the UAE a regional and global center for advanced science and technology - the UAE continues its successes in this important scientific field. ”

He added: «At the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Center, we are constantly looking for new opportunities to develop our local capabilities in the field of space science, and involve Emirati youth, to reach the strategic goal of making the UAE a global center for space science, and implement the ambitious Emirati project to build the first human settlement on The surface of Mars.

He continued: «Simulation projects have a major role in the field of space exploration, and assimilation of various aspects related to it, as well as helping scientists to develop effective mechanisms and technologies to implement future tasks that serve humanity, and we say to every ambitious young Emirati who has a passion for science, and hopes to be part of these global efforts Today, you have the opportunity to make a difference and crown your passion for contributing to shaping the future of space science.

For his part, Adnan Al Rayes, director of the “Mars 2117 Program” at the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Center, said: “This experiment is an additional step for our tasks that aim to develop our knowledge in the field of exploring Mars. The participating team will undergo behavioral and psychological experiments and tests that will help us find answers to The impact of the isolated environment on humans, and these results will be used to design and implement future missions related to sending human space exploration missions. ”

And analog experiments about simulating life on Mars are an important element in determining the form and mechanism for carrying out future missions to explore Mars and other planets, as humans can conduct research that answers many questions about the effect of the space environment on human life, without the need to send people to space.

Scientists are taking advantage of the results of these experiments to develop special mechanisms, by taking countermeasures that help humans face the dangers humans may face in space, in addition to testing new technologies designed for use in the harsh space environment.

It is noteworthy that this project comes within the initiatives of the Mars 2117 program, and it is sponsored by the Communications and Information Technology Development Fund, the financing arm of the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority. Those interested in participating in the "Sirus 20/21" project can contact the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Center via email: analog.mission@mbrsc.ae.

Conditions for participation

The applicant is required to participate in the “Mars 2117 Program”, to be a citizen of the UAE, and his age ranges between 28 and 55 years, with mastery of communication in the English language, while the preference will be among applicants for specialists in any of the following fields: physics or biology, forensic medicine Psychology, Mechanics Engineering, Information Technology and Electronics.

The applications will be evaluated by a specialized committee, to choose the most appropriate candidates from among them, after conducting personal interviews with them, and then subjecting them to a set of tests, before selecting the members of the final team participating in the experiment «Sirus 20/21» and will bear the name of the group «crew number one ».

- "crew number one" is the name of the team participating in the "Cyrus 20/21" experiment.
