Today, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) opened the last two phases of the road project leading to the Expo 2020 site, where a bridging intersection linking Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed and Expo streets, and two bridges on the Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Street were opened to secure entry and exit traffic to and from the exhibition site, and by opening In these two phases, the authority will have completed all phases of the road project leading to Expo.

The total length of bridges in the two phases is seven kilometers, the length of roads is 43 kilometers, while the number of intersections is three intersections.

The completion of the project comes as a translation of the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to develop road projects and transportation systems related to meeting the requirements of Dubai hosting the Expo, to ensure the smooth flow of traffic, which serves visitors to the exhibition and serve future projects in Region.

The road network development project leading to the Expo is one of the largest road projects implemented by the Roads and Transport Authority to meet the requirements of Dubai hosting the Expo 2020, and given the magnitude of the project, it was divided into six phases, to complete all work within the specified time period, and before a sufficient period of Opening of the Expo.

Matar Mohamed Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Directors at the Roads and Transport Authority said: The works of the penultimate stage of the project included converting the previously existing roundabout at the intersection of Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Street with Expo Street, to a bridge intersection that provides free traffic in every direction, by expanding and raising Expo Street through the implementation of two bridges with a capacity of six tracks in each direction while providing bypass movements and free connections to ensure the smooth flow of traffic from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Street towards the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and vice versa, as well as traffic from Expo Street towards Sheikh Zayed Street, as well as facilitating the upcoming traffic From Expo Street to the north to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Street towards Dubai and from Expo Street to the south to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Street towards Abu Dhabi, it also included the implementation of road works of 27 km on Expo Street, and its expansion from four tracks to six tracks in each direction, and the construction of roads Service in both directions, and the implementation of four bridges in parts of it, to provide traffic flows to and from Expo Street towards the exhibition site.

He added: The project contributes to increasing the capacity of the intersection of Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Street with Expo Street from 8 thousand vehicles per hour to 60 thousand vehicles per hour, and the journey time on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Street from the basin of the dock to the entrance of Al Maktoum Airport will be reduced from 35 minutes Up to 6 minutes, in addition to providing a direct exit from the Expo 2020 site to Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road heading north to Dubai.

The General Manager and Chairman of the Board of Directors pointed out that the last stage of the road leading to Expo 2020 project that opened today Saturday, included the completion of two interchanges bridged on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Street to secure entry and exit traffic to and from the exhibition site (they will be opened gradually in coordination with the Expo 2020 office), In addition to 16 km of road works, the first intersection (Expo intersection) included the implementation of two bridges with a capacity of six tracks, to serve traffic coming from Dubai, Sharjah and other Emirates, to enter the parking of vehicles at the site of Expo 2020, as well as the implementation of two bridges with a capacity of two tracks to serve the upcoming traffic From Abu Dhabi towards the exhibition, and the implementation of a bridge with a capacity of two tracks to serve the movement of vehicle exit from the exhibition to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Street towards Abu Dhabi, while the second intersection (Al Maktoum Airport intersection) included the implementation of a bridge with a capacity of three tracks to serve traffic coming from Dubai, Sharjah and other emirates towards The exhibition site, and a bridge with a capacity of two tracks to serve the exit of vehicles from the exhibition towards Abu Dhabi, as well as the implementation of surface road works, to facilitate the movement of traffic to and from Abu Dhabi, and the establishment of service roads on both sides of Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Street.



Matar Mohammed Al Tayer explained that with the opening of the last two phases, the authority will have completed all works of the road project leading to the Expo 2020 site, as it opened last December the sixth phase of the road network development project leading to the Expo 2020, and included the implementation of bridges of a kilometer and 400 meters, And roads with a length of nearly eight kilometers, where the former circle on the intersection of Emirates Street with Expo Street has been converted to a bridge intersection, providing free traffic in all directions. In August 2019, the authority inaugurated the third and fourth phases of the road network development project leading to the Expo , Which included T. Develop two interchanges of Sheikh Zayed Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street with both Expo Street and Al Yalais Street, in addition to developing two interchanges embedded on Sheikh Zayed Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street in the Dubai Investment Park area, and the expansion of Sheikh Zayed Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street from two tracks in each direction to Five tracks in each direction, the total length of bridges in the two phases reached five kilometers, while the length of the roads reached 17 kilometers, and the Authority opened in February 2019, the fifth stage that included the implementation of bridges with a length of 2.6 kilometers, and roads along nearly three kilometers, and increased the number of tracks of Expo Street Three to six tracks in each direction, three lengths Three kilometers, with the addition of service roads to improve the traffic situation of the existing roads, and the lifting of the Expo Street at its intersection with Al-Asayel Street, with a bridge of 800 meters in length, and the capacity of six tracks in each direction, and the construction of two other bridges to connect the Expo Street to the service road in the area along one kilometer, to provide movement Streamlined to and from the Expo site.

It is worth noting that the Roads and Transport Authority has developed an integrated plan to meet the requirements of Dubai hosting Expo 2020, and to achieve safe and easy transportation for visitors to the exhibition and its activities, in addition to developing the necessary road and intersections network to serve the exhibition, the plan includes the implementation of (Path 2020) to extend the red line of Dubai Metro from a station "Nakheel Harbor and Tower" to the site of the Expo 2020 with a length of 15 km, as well as developing the lines and systems of mass transportation necessary to serve the exhibition, and that include providing lines to transport visitors to the exhibition with environmentally friendly buses from the main gathering points in the Emirate of Dubai, to the exhibition site, and provide the required taxis To serve pain visitors Trauma, and provide it with the necessary attitudes and regulate movement.
It also opened a unified control center for transportation and road systems, which is one of the largest and most modern control centers in the world, in terms of employing smart technologies, its ability to control, control and integrate all the different current and future means of transportation, and proper planning for transportation to meet the various transportation challenges in the emirate.
