Pink balloons filled with crimson color were thrown on the President's huge wooden doors. "Estado feminicida" - a state of female murder, was spread among several other messages.

President López Obrador, who lives in the palace with his family, tried to calm the demonstrators during a press conference.

- I'm not putting my head in the sand. The government I represent will always ensure women's safety.

Murder of 25-year-old revolts

In Mexico, an average of ten women are killed per day. And one of the more notable is the murder of a 25-year-old woman from Mexico City. Her partner is suspected of the murder and police found her skinned and without organs, Reuters reported earlier this week.

"Not another murder," screamed the protesters, who also tried to get into the newspaper La Prensa's editorial on Friday.

"We are not safe"

The protests against men's violence against women have been going on for months and have become violent. But what triggered this week's anger was that La Prensa published photos of the 25-year-old's wounded body, Reuters writes.

- We are not safe, either in public or private rooms because the people who kill us are the ones who sleep next to us. Our partners, spouses, boyfriends are the ones who kill us, says one of the protesters who chose to remain anonymous, to AFP.

The newspaper defended the publication, saying they wanted to draw attention to the widespread violence and that politicians would respond, Reuters writes.
