The Makers of Hope initiative, the largest of its kind in the Arab world to honor the bidders, dedicates the proceeds of its closing ceremony to the project of building the Magdi Yaqoub Heart Disease Hospital, which was chosen by the Arab Humanitarian Project for the current year, in a step that contributes to treating millions of hearts in need of care in the Arab world.

And the "makers of hope" choice was signed by the Magdy Yacoub Heart Disease Hospital project in Egypt, which is affiliated to the Magdy Yacoub Foundation, which will be built in Cairo to treat patients free of charge. The proceeds of the closing ceremony of the Hope Makers Initiative will be held on February 20 to support its establishment, in order to consolidate the culture of humanitarian action and highlight a charitable Arab project of shared human value.

The Magdy Yacoub Foundation for Cardiology and Research runs a specialized hospital for treating heart patients free of charge in the southernmost city of Aswan, and the organization intends to expand by building a new hospital in Cairo supported by the Hope Makers Initiative, to be a five-fold capacity of the existing hospital in Aswan. The hospital will also be a main center for the institution and receive heart patients from the Arab world and beyond. The hospital will include a research center specializing in cardiology, and an academy to train Egyptian and Arab doctors in the latest techniques of heart surgery and treatment.

Dr. Magdy Yacoub is seeking, through the new hospital, which provides free services for cardiac patients from inside and outside the Arab Republic of Egypt to conducting thousands of surgeries and training hundreds of Egyptian and Arab cadres, in order to complete his scientific and human career in the field of cardiac surgery.

The new hospital will provide training for more than 1,000 doctors and surgeons specializing in cardiology, through the Education and Training Center of the Majdi Yaqoub Foundation for Cardiology and Research, who will be among the highly qualified medical staff in the hospital.

The research of specialized medical cadres that will work in the corridors of the new medical edifice will contribute to writing down their practical experiences and scientific observations, to map out a genetic map of heart diseases in the Arab region, leading to the development of preventive health measures that contribute to raising levels of health care for heart diseases in Arab societies and the world at large. The new hospital in Cairo is expected to be one of the largest cardiology and research institutions in the region, to put its capabilities and the expertise of its doctors within the reach of those who cannot afford the high costs of cardiac health care. This is the reason for the positive interaction with the announcement of the Hope Makers Initiative, which falls under the umbrella of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Initiatives Foundation, to allocate the proceeds of its closing ceremony to support the construction of the new hospital, knowing that heart diseases are among the main causes of death in the Arab world.

One of the most common diseases in the Arab world is cardiovascular disease. According to the World Health Organization, it is estimated that 54% of deaths from noncommunicable diseases in the Eastern Mediterranean Region, for example, are caused by cardiovascular diseases.

In Egypt, cardiovascular disease is the primary cause of disease deaths. Among the 18,000 Egyptian children born annually with congenital heart diseases, 5,000 of them are not survivors due to the lack of adequate treatment facilities. Hence, the establishment of the new hospital comes to meet an urgent need in the Arab world.

By supporting the hospital financially and highlighting it, the Hope Makers initiative moves to a greater and more comprehensive phase in giving in which it creates an Arab culture of hope that focuses not only on local communities, but also overlooks it to the Arab world as a whole to produce an Arab human movement in support of this type of initiative that renews hope and revives Hearts. Dr. Magdy Yacoub is considered one of the most famous cardiologists in the world, and his title of the world press was the King of Hearts. The Queen of Britain, Elizabeth II, also gave him the title of Sir, in recognition of his steadfast global position in developing the science of heart surgery. The doctor seeks to perform thousands of surgeries and train hundreds of Egyptian and Arab cadres, through Dr. Magdy Yaqoub Heart Hospital in Egypt, to complement his long scientific and human career in the field of cardiac surgery.
