The Cairo Criminal Court -the Saturday 15th February- punished the actor Boutros Raouf Ghali, with a 30-year prison term and a fine of six million Egyptian pounds (380,000 dollars), in two cases of smuggling Egyptian antiquities out of the country.

Ghali was accused of participating in smuggling antiquities in two cases, and in the first he was sentenced to 15 years in prison and a fine of five million pounds, and the second 15 years and a fine of one million pounds.

The case dates back to June 2019, when the Egyptian Public Prosecution received a report stating that there are 195 small-sized artifacts and 21,660 coins in the Italian city of Salerno.

The defendant’s defense stated that the seizures were inherited by Ghali from his grandfather Boutros Pasha Neroz Ghali, the former Prime Minister of Egypt.

Artist Boutros Ghali belongs to one of the most famous families who held ministerial positions in the history of modern Egypt, and his grandfather, Boutros Pasha Neroz Ghali, Prime Minister of Egypt between 1908-1910.

Actor Boutros Ghali is the brother of former Minister of Finance Youssef Boutros Ghali, who has escaped outside the country since the January 2011 revolution, and issued judicial rulings against him, totaling 65 years in prison. The United States has a veto power to prevent it from being renewed as the United Nations Secretariat.

The actor participated in secondary roles in a group of works of art during the past years, most notably the series "Nights Eugenie", and an honorary guest participated in the series "Rami", whose hero Rami Youssef won the Golden Globe award this year.
