Violence has not abated in Burkina Faso. Five people including a pastor, kidnapped on Tuesday by a terrorist group in Sebba, a locality located in the north of the country, were found dead, announced on Friday Colonel Salfo Kaboré, governor of the Sahel region. "On the night of February 10 to 11, around 11:00 pm, an armed terrorist group burst into the town of Sebba, Yahgha province, to attack two homes," he said.

Over 700 dead since 2015

This incursion had initially caused "the death of a person", "the abduction of seven others, as well as a vehicle and various materials", specifies the colonel. "The defense and security forces immediately began research which made it possible to find two of the abducted persons in the morning of Thursday 13 February 2020. The rest of the research unfortunately led to the discovery of the lifeless bodies of five other wanted people. ” According to a security source, "the abducted and found dead are essentially members of the family of a pastor who is among the victims just like his son". The bodies were buried on Thursday.

Burkina Faso, bordering Mali and Niger, has been the scene of regular jihadist attacks since 2015 with more than 700 dead. The north and east of the country are particularly affected and Ouagadougou, the capital, was hit three times. Under-equipped and poorly trained, the Burkinabé security forces fail to stem the spiral of violence despite the help of foreign soldiers, in particular the French force Barkhane.
