Party officials say they are already preparing to return the ex-Prime Minister in exile to Canada in the coming months to participate in his party's special convention, which will be sworn in as presidential candidate.

" We want him to return in dignified and respectable conditions, due to his status as a former head of state, " said Augustin Loada, president of the Patriotic Salvation Movement, the party that supports the candidacy of the ex - Prime Minister under the transition.

Procedure for " insubordination and desertion in peacetime "

" There is a law that defines the status of former heads of state so we would have liked him to have this status without requiring anything specific, " he said. In exile in Canada since 2016, the military justice of Ouagadougou had launched proceedings against him for " insubordination and desertion in peacetime ". He is also cited in the judicial file on the suppression of the popular uprising of October 2014.

" There is no legal constraint that prevents Yacouba Isaac Zida from being a candidate in the presidential election ," said Augustin Loada. The president of the MPS assures that if there are questions to which he must answer, Yacouba Isaac Zida " is quite ready to answer them ".

For us, it is the ideal candidate, given his experience, his reputation and his competence, especially in the security field, which constitutes in Burkina Faso the priority of priorities.
