On the night of the incident, the victim struggled and shouted to escape his attacker. A man suspected of an attempted rape on February 1 at dawn in Vénissieux near Lyon, was arrested Tuesday, we learned from the police.

At around 5 a.m. on the day of the incident, the victim, a 27-year-old young woman, was returning home after an evening with friends when a man started following her, as soon as she got out of the metro. She hurried on but did not manage to outrun her attacker, who threw her to the ground and tore her clothes off to rape her, specifies the safety of the Rhône.

To get out, the young woman struggled and screamed, alerting the neighbors. The attacker then fled. By retracing his journey via video surveillance cameras, the police quickly made the connection with a homeless person, unfavorably known to the services in the commune. DNA samples found on the victim's clothing confirmed the investigators' suspicions.

A search warrant was then issued by the Lyon public prosecutor's office and surveillance was set up in the Vénissieux district where the attempted rape took place. At the end of the day Tuesday, the suspect was finally spotted and arrested. He would have recognized the facts during his police custody. Presented to the prosecution on Thursday, he was placed under investigation after the opening of a judicial investigation and placed in pre-trial detention.
