It covers six kilometers and four municipalities (Nantes, Saint-Sébastien-sur-Loire, Vertou and Basse-Goulaine). Over the years, the Clisson road, in the south-east of the agglomeration, has seen numerous accommodation and shops flourish without any real coherence. Its crossing is, moreover, tedious for cars and dangerous for two-wheelers. The traffic is however significant (13,000 vehicles per day), as much during peak hours for commuting as at weekends for serving the South Pole and Saint-Seb 'boulevard commercial areas.

Aware of the problem, the elected representatives of Nantes Métropole, meeting in session this Friday, voted on a plan to requalify the six kilometers of this former penetrant. The idea is first of all to group together the commercial, housing and service areas by promoting, in particular, the Lion d'Or, Ouche-Catin, Vertou or Laurier-Fleuri hubs . It is also a question of calming traffic by developing zones 30, by securing cycle paths, by widening certain sidewalks and by facilitating the passage of public transport.

Works until 2027

The first works will begin in 2021 with the creation of two roundabouts at the corner of rue Marie-Curie and, 500 m further east, at the crossing of the route du Loroux-Bottereau. New housing and shops must also be set up around Vertou station from 2022. The Lion d'Or sector would be more concerned from 2024. All the work should be completed in 2027. The estimated budget amounted to 11.8 million euros.

"There was a need to carry out important work on this old national road," agrees Rodolphe Amailland, mayor of Vertou.
