Rescuers said that at least five people were killed after their cruise boat capsized in southeastern Bangladesh Friday.

The boat, carrying about 30 tourists, capsized in Lake Kaptai while on its way to the Soblang waterfall. He was on his way from the headquarters of the Rangamati district administration, about 200 km southeast of the capital, Dhaka, according to Ratan Kumar Nath, a fire and civil defense department official.

He added that his team recovered the bodies of five people and saved the survivors from the lake. The lake was formed in the early 1960s, when a reservoir was built on the Karnavuli River for a hydroelectric project.
Nath did not specify the cause of the accident.

The police official, Khan Nur al-Islam, said that the victims came from the neighboring "Chatogram" area for a visit at the weekend.

Those who died in the accident were employees of a garment factory in the Chatogram area, the official said.

Boat caps often occur in Bangladesh, which is filled with rivers.

Experts attribute the cause of the accidents to weak safety standards and lax implementation of regulations.
