- We cannot continue the development where more and more private individuals are driving in large SUVs, and especially not in inner cities. One of the reasons that emissions do not go down globally is the development with more and more SUVs, says Climate Minister Isabella Lövin (MP) to SVT.

But the government's system of climate bonuses for low-emission cars and penalties for those with high emissions does not take into account the size or weight of cars. SVT's review shows that every fourth bonus car weighs over two tonnes.

Volvo Criticism

The best-selling bonus car is a large SUV and the climate minister agrees that a small flexible electric car is better for the climate than a large one. The government wants to tighten the rules and limits for bonuses, but there are no plans to change the instruments so that size or weight is noticed on the tax.

Not least, Volvo has been criticized for the fact that the climate hybrid SUVs with climate bonus are heavy and thirsty on the road, and Isabella Lövin blames that development on the companies themselves.

"Woefully"

- It is sad that car manufacturers as of late, 2020, are investing in large SUVs that have large internal combustion engines, when we have known about the climate crisis for 30 years.

Volvo's CEO says that they do so because they get, and there are no penalties in the instruments today from the government?

- Yes, then you do not take responsibility, says Isabella Lövin.
