Nicolas Batum is known for his statistics on the floors of the NBA, the American basketball championship where he plays with the Charlotte Hornets team. But this week, it was in the “champion of the heart” section that he stood out.

With his wife Aurélie, they decided to give 40,000 euros for a good cause, that which will consist in financing the operation of Sacha, a little Toulousain suffering from Little's disease.

It was through the association "Les petits bosses", created less than a year ago to help young patients and their families, that contact was made. To improve motor functions and reduce the pain of the 7-year-old boy, an intervention was scheduled for next June in Saint-Louis, Missouri.

If Sacha's relatives had already managed to raise part of the 65,000 euros necessary to finance the operation, they were missing 40,000 euros. Contacted last month by the association, Aurélie and Nicolas Batum decided to take charge of the entire amount.

Raising awareness of other athletes

“They have been funding projects for many years with complete anonymity. If they agreed to come out of the shadows for this donation, it is also to raise awareness among other athletes, "explains Laurent Mommeja, the president of the association" Les petits bosses ".

And this is indeed the hope of Esther Guérin, Sacha's mother, that others will be inspired by the “immensely altruistic” gesture of the Batum to be able to finance the operations of sick children.
