The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) inaugurated the test run of the SMIFR Shaped Magnetic Field in Resonance after its extensive testing in the Dubai Silicon Oasis.

The project is one of the authority’s initiatives to support and stimulate the use of environmentally friendly vehicles and sustainable transportation, in line with the Dubai Integrated Energy Strategy 2030 and the Dubai Plan 2021, and in line with the UAE vision 2021, said Matar Mohamed Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the authority.

It is also a future Dubai accelerator project, and is implemented in partnership with the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority and Dubai Silicon Oasis.

Al Tayer said that the project included in its first stage the preparation of the necessary infrastructure and a 60-meter road underpass in the Dubai Silicon Oasis area, to enable electric vehicles and buses to wirelessly charge while they were running, without stopping.

He added: “The authority implemented a pilot operation of a bus and an electric vehicle, and the results showed a high efficiency in wireless charging, similar to wired charging systems, and a level of electromagnetic waves inside the bus and the vehicle within the international standards”, stressing that “the success of the introduction and operation of buses and electric vehicles within the transport fleet” The collective of the authority, is largely based on the shipping technology, availability and reliability, as it allows continuous operation of buses around the clock without the need to stop or return to the shelters for power supply, and this technology is not visible and is installed under the frame It does not cause visual pollution of the city, nor does it impede the movement of pedestrians and vehicles, such as wired chargers installed on the roads.

Al Tayer emphasized that the authority is keeping pace with the latest developments and the global technology reached in the field of bus and electric batteries industry and various freight systems, to use electric buses within its fleet in the next stage, and to provide safe, easy and sustainable mass transportation, and to take inspiration from its principles of vision (a green economy for sustainable development) , Launched by the Dubai government, which is part of Emirates Vision 2021.

For his part, CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, confirmed that the dynamic wireless charging project for vehicles and electric buses implemented by the two authorities, and Dubai Silicon Oasis, will contribute to supporting the sustainability process in Dubai, which is one of the leading cities in the renewable energy sector. Al Tayer pointed out that the authority has installed more than 240 charging stations for electric cars across Dubai, and aims to reach the number of charging stations for electric cars to 300 stations by the end of this year, to encourage the use of environmentally friendly electric cars. The authority also announced the extension of the free shipping period for non-commercial car owners registered in the "Green Charger" service until the end of 2021, at the public charging stations of the authority.

Vice President and CEO of Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority, Dr. Mohamed Ahmed Al Zarouni said that the development of smart mobility is one of the six main pillars of the smart cities strategy, which Dubai is adopting as part of its keenness to be the smartest city globally.
