According to an investigator, the man simply managed to run away from his carer during a walk outside the clinic's main building. He has recently been granted guarded walks in the hospital area.

However, according to Eirini Alexiou, Head of Operations Psychiatry Sahlgrenska University Hospital, the supervised stay took place "outside the hospital".

- A significant part of the mission of forensic psychiatrically convicted patients is about the patient being able to stay out in the community without falling back into crime. Structured risk assessments are made regularly for each patient. The individual's mental state and other circumstances in the individual case are taken into account in the assessment, he says in a press release.

Not the first time

It may seem astonishing that the patient was able to escape by running away from the caregiver. Even before, there have been escapes from Rågården. In 2017, an inmate managed to get out to the rest yard, where he could stand on another man's shoulders to get up on the roof and from there on to freedom.

- It was so easy to accommodate that it is laughable. I never could have thought it would be so easy to get out, the man said afterwards to Aftonbladet.

After that escape, the clinic added an analysis team that identified deficiencies and made sure they were corrected.

The man who now escaped is wanted and the business has requested police handcuffs to return him to Rågården. A non-conformity report is made and the target owner is notified in accordance with the business's routine.
