February 12, 2020 "There is no other possibility of further postponement." The extraordinary commissioner of Ilva Da Novi said at the hearing in the Chamber, adding that "we are far from an agreement, we aim to get there for February 29, but currently there are the conditions for reaching an agreement". And he added: in the absence of an agreement "each party will take responsibility".

"The main points of the agreement" on which work is being done to reach an agreement "by the end of the month", continued Da Novi, foresee "the advance of the purchase of the Ilva assets; the maintenance of the established price" in the original agreement. "In return there is the state's willingness to join the Ami team in the face of Mittal's willingness to prepare a new business plan with new green technologies and substantial maintenance of the employment level".

"The government - explained the commissioner - is available to enter the capital and to accept some instances of Arcelor MittalI Italia" of Newco which will provide for the restructuring and revitalization of the former Ilva, "at the cost that Ami accepts the transition towards decarbonisation within the framework of a new deal wanted by Europe ". And for the commissioners, he said, "the 2018 agreement is valid".

"The Taranto plant will have to produce value and must be sustainable both from an economic and environmental point of view", said Alessandro Da Novi again in illustrating the points of an agreement on which the lawyers of the two parties are negotiating in view of the end of the March 6 set by the court to avoid Arcelor Mittal's withdrawal. "The goal is an 8 million ton production and full employment."
