The Angers Criminal Court sentenced a 60-year-old man on Monday to a fine of 10,000 euros, including 5,000 euros suspended, for illegally slaughtering twenty-five sheep in 2016 outside an approved abattoir, and detained, in 2017, eighteen unidentified sheep, reports Ouest-France.

In early September 2016, the Departmental Directorate for the Protection of Populations had been alerted by the large number of illegal killings at the time of the Eid festival. The individual then explained that he did not know that it was illegal to slaughter and keep animals. He then specified that he had killed twenty as part of the Eid festival (for his family) and detained five to resell them. The court refused to hear anything and sentenced him.
