On Monday, it became clear that Vy Tåg AB will take over night train traffic between Narvik and Stockholm from SJ in December. In connection with this, SJ announced that from December they will not be able to drive the night trains between Stockholm and Gothenburg and because the night train route Narvik - Gothenburg is divided between two operators.

The reactions to the decision have been strong and names have been started to stop the closure of the night trains to and from Gothenburg and to Jämtland.

Investigates the opportunity to take over

Now Vy Tåg announces that they are looking at the possibilities of driving their night trains from Narvik to Gothenburg.

- We have won the contract for traffic to and from Stockholm, but when it became known to us that SJ was quitting, we had to find out if we were able to let our trains continue down to Gothenburg, says CEO Dag Lokrantz-Bernitz.

Must be profitable

Last spring Vy Tåg hopes to leave a message.

- The decisive factor is whether the route is commercially viable, but we notice a huge interest in going trains now, says Dag Lokrantz-Bernitz.

Sara Lindquist lives in Gothenburg but often goes up to Umeå with her children.

- It's stupid if the night trains disappear, I want to see overall responsibility for the infrastructure in the country, it must be easy to travel north, she says.

The new traffic period starts on December 13 this year and extends until December 14, 2024. There is a possibility of extending the period by up to two years.
