"A widespread awareness of the use, meaning and impact of technologies is needed, because technological development involves the whole human family. IBM and Microsoft first signatories
"Artificial intelligence is in its early stages and now is the time to assert our shared responsibility and common purpose as humans, societies and governments to ensure that these
emerging technologies are developed and used ethically and for the good of humanity and the environment. The call is an important step forward in defining the definition of shared ethical procedures, "says John Kelly III, IBM executive vice president, first signatory of the document together with Microsoft.

For the signature, Microsoft President Brad Smith returns to Rome exactly one year after his visit to Pope Francescoi, who underlines that the 'Rome Call for AI Ethics' "represents an important step forward in promoting a thoughtful debate, respectful and inclusive on the relationship between artificial intelligence and ethics ". As stated a year ago, Smith argues that "technology has the power to solve some of the greatest challenges in the world, but for it to be beneficial for all, it must be guided by strong ethical principles that are based on human rights. L The commitment and the value brought by His Holiness in this dialogue is a source of inspiration for me ".
