According to the agency, in 2019, 28.6% of crimes committed in this region were related to the use of information technology.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs refers to these crimes using computers and computer programs, mobile phones, plastic cards, electronic payments and the Internet.

Also among the “leaders” in this indicator are the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug (27.2%), Chuvashia (26.8%), the Komi Republic (23.9%) and the Penza Region (23.1%).

The smallest of such crimes were recorded in Chechnya (1.7%), Dagestan (3.5%), Ingushetia (4.4%), St. Petersburg (4.6%) and the Moscow Region (5.3%).

In general, in 2019 the number of recorded crimes using information technologies reached 294 thousand. Compared to 2018, this figure increased by 68.5%. Of these, the number of registered facts of fraud amounted to 119.9 thousand, thefts - 98.8 thousand, and actions related to drug trafficking - 24.7 thousand.

In addition, the number of facts of fraud using payment cards has grown over the past year by 280%, amounting to 16.1 thousand.

Earlier, the head of the Association of Professional Users of Social Networks and Messengers suggested that the FAS introduce a new way to combat telephone scammers.
