Gothenburg has the country's most expensive rental apartments

On the top ten list, all apartments cost more than SEK 22,000 a month. But for the most expensive rental right in the country you can add another ten thousand kronor. And that apartment is in central Gothenburg.

A newly renovated seven-room apartment at Kungsportsavenyen 37 in Gothenburg costs SEK 32,160 a month, according to the survey conducted by the Tenants' Association's newspaper, Home & Rent, of mediated apartments in 2019. - Rents are set according to a utility value system, where apartments with high quality and good location cost more, says Carl-Johan Bergström, negotiating manager at the Tenants Association.

- Our goal is not that all rental apartments should be cheap. We do not want rental apartments to be a second-class housing type. Rental apartments should be attractive for all categories, he continues.

According to Carl-Johan Bergström, the problem is not that there are expensive apartments, but that there is a shortage situation where people often overpay too much.

- Look at the condominiums, where there is free pricing when the owner rents out. This leads to an extreme price trend as many are desperate. Many people want to live in Gothenburg, but it is difficult to get an apartment here. It's still being built too few, and those being built are often too expensive, he says.
