SVT News Blekinge has previously reported that the sport attracts fewer and fewer young people and that the differences are large between different districts in Karlskrona municipality.

At Hästö, 97 percent of children and young people aged 7-20 are members of a sports association. But just three kilometers away, in the Kungsmarken, the corresponding figure is 27 percent, which is one of the lowest figures in Sweden.

"The sports engagement in different districts has a clear socio-economic connection," says Olof Ljungberg, sports consultant at RF-SISU Blekinge.

"The right way to go"

In September, six guys at the age of 16 and 19 decided to start the Karlskrona Basketball Club in Kungsmarken, with training at the Sunnandal School. Olof Ljungberg is very positive about the initiative.

- The fact that young people start a sports club is fantastic. We need to see more young people on boards and as leaders. I definitely think it's the right way to go to attract more young people to the sport, he says.
