If you have decided to rent a car to move more freely during your winter holidays, beware of the overly attractive offers that can be found on the Internet in particular. In a sector where competition is increasingly fierce, the "unexpected" that swell the budget are legion.

This weekend marks the beginning of the winter holidays for zone C, the opportunity for the lucky ones to leave far from their daily life. Whether you have decided to go skiing or in the sun, you may have planned to rent a car. For the past seven years, more and more French people have been using the rental space to travel during their holidays. The sector even grew by 5% last year, and now weighs 4 billion euros.

"Contingencies" that inflate the bill

So inevitably, the competition develops and the new players try to have their share of the cake too, at the risk sometimes of proposing too attractive offers. If you find a car for rent for 10 euros a day, for example, in most cases it will actually cost you two to three times more. To find your way in this jungle where 40% of the activity takes place on the Internet, it was therefore necessary to develop a reliable and neutral comparator which takes into account all these small "unforeseen events" that inflate the bill.

"We started from the observation that there was a huge exhaustiveness of the car rental offer", explains to the microphone of Europe 1 Charles Derynck, commercial director of Liligon, a comparator. "Since the comparison takes place before the purchase process, we have integrated [on our site] criteria such as kilometer costs, one-way charges, young driver's fees or airport taxes to be sure that the user has all the cards in hand to select the offer he needs. "

Kilometric charges and young driver tax

Among the most recurrent unpleasant surprises, we find for example the young driver fees which can increase up to 30 euros per rental day. But mileage costs are not left behind in unforeseen budget expenses. That is why we must always take care to check whether the mileage plan is unlimited or not.
