Pierre-Hugues Herbert did better than resist but ultimately lost in the quarter-final of the ATP 250 tournament in Montpellier against the Belgian David Goffin 6-4, 7-6 (7-5), Friday in Hérault.

The 28-year-old Frenchman, 67th in the world, suffered the domination of the Belgian number 1 for the fifth consecutive meeting.

If the first set was clearly in favor of Goffin (10th ATP), the second was much more hooked, Herbert, finalist of the previous edition, counting up to 3 games ahead at 4-1.

But the incredible pugnacity of the Walloon paid off: Goffin managed to break twice and chain four consecutive games, placing the two players neck and neck, before finally taking the upper hand in the tie-break of the second set.

David Goffin will face half Canadian Vasek Popsili, who benefited from Richard Gasquet's retirement in the third round.
