The first parade of New York Women's Fashion Week, organized by the Chinese house Mukzin, was held Thursday in front of a partially empty room, while the new coronavirus complicates the movement of fashionistas.

After having already paraded in London and Paris, the young designer Kate Han (Han Wen by her Chinese name) came to present in New York her fashion which integrates the influence of traditional China in a modern vision.

Extremely rare, at the beginning of the parade, entire rows were empty in this hall of the Spring Studio, one of the usual places of Fashion Week, located in the Tribeca district.

"Mukzin could be the only Chinese brand you will see at this Fashion Week, for the reason you all know, coronavirus in China," a spokesperson on the catwalk told the audience before the models showed up. . "It really is a disaster and a very sad story."

"We are not only here to present beautiful pieces but also to show the Chinese and people around the world that our determination, our strength and our love are strong in difficulties and adversity," continued this woman who wore a house outfit.

In the audience, only one guest wore a gas mask, but it was more a fashion accessory than a means of protection. She also removed it before the start of the parade.

After the parade, Kate Hen did not speak about the consequences for her parade of the epidemic that is currently hitting China.

"I felt confident and safe to do this parade," she said.

A parade of Chinese designers, gathered under the banner of the China Fashion Collective, is to parade on Tuesday in New York.

Asked by AFP, one of the houses of this collective, Sheguang Hu, said that the parade would be held as planned.
