The Customs Gymnasium in Örebro conducts adult education for prospective bus drivers. When SVT Nyheter Örebro visits the training, they have a theoretical review of how an engine works.

Ahmad Alhroub is one of the students sitting and listening.

- I don't like it and so it's a criminal offense, he says about the bus drivers using the mobile phone behind the wheel.

Takes risks

During the training, risks with mobile use are addressed and according to Thord Persson, traffic teacher, the discussions among the students tend to be clear.

- Everyone knows that it is forbidden and that one should not use the mobile phone, both when it comes to talking and surfing in it, he says.

"Influence with knowledge"

But SVT News Örebro's survey shows that more than 3,000 cases last year have been received by county transport companies and regions around the country where travelers say that bus drivers used cell phones in traffic.

- It is a behavior that must be influenced by knowledge. The risk is not that you are taken by the police, but the danger is for other people's lives and health. You have to understand that, says Thord Persson.

Had you been able to do something more about this issue from the education?

- You can always do more. The reason is to drive safely and we focus on the attitude itself. It is important to be an example in both speed adaptation and behavior. Where mobile is one of many different risk factors that can affect the degree of an accident, he says.
