February 5, 2020 As expected, U.S. President Donald Trump has been acquitted by the Senate for Kievgate.

In article 1 of the impeachment, the one on abuse of power, Trump was acquitted with 52 votes in favor and 48 against, all 47 democratic senators, plus Republican Mitt Romney.

Immediately afterwards, the Senate, with 53 votes in favor and 47 against, acquitted Trump also from the second article of the impeachment, that of obstruction of Congress. In this case, all democratic senators voted against acquittal and all Republican senators, including Mitt Romney, who had instead voted in favor of the president's conviction for abuse of power, voted against acquittal.
