It is noted that the Democrats were not able to gain a majority of votes in the Senate vote. At least two-thirds of the vote was required to convict Trump.
According to The Hill, 47 senators agreed to recognize Trump as guilty, while 53 members of the congress opposed this.
Earlier, senators also acquitted the American president on charges of abuse of power.
Thus, the impeachment process was closed. Trump remains the president of the United States.
