Read moreOne month after the second round on December 29, the issue remains disputed between Umaro Sissoco Embalo, from the opposition, and Domingos Simoes Pereira, the candidate of PAIGC, the party that has dominated Bissau-Guinean political life for decades. The quarrel, which also pits the Electoral Commission against the country's Supreme Court, is not over.
A new stage has been reached in the Bissau-Guinean crisis, and yet the impression of being on the spot persists. After the contest of the results of the second round of the presidential election by the unsuccessful candidate, and the appeals brought to the Supreme Court, the Cédéao had recommended , last week, a measure " exceptionally ".
The electoral commission was to initiate a procedure for verifying the national consolidation of the data from the regional commissions of the second round. Something done this Tuesday. And the result remains the same: Umaro Sissoco Embalo obtains 53.55% of the votes against 46.45% at Domingos Simoes Pereira. The representatives of the two camps noted the status quo at the end of this procedure, which took place in the presence of officials of the ECOWAS.
The declared winner welcomes this, and his opponent does not believe it. On Twitter, the PAIGC condemned, once again, what it considers as a lack of transparency of the national electoral commission, suggesting an extension of the remedies before the justice.
