The police evacuated Tuesday morning the last migrant camp in Paris, announced the prefecture of police, thus responding to the government's promise to empty the northeast of the capital of these unsanitary camps.

"End of the evacuation operation at the door of the #Villette", tweeted, at 8.20 am, the police headquarters, two hours after a first tweet announcing the start of the operation.

Last week, more than 1,400 migrants were evacuated from the Porte d'Aubervilliers camp. Between 900 and 1,800 people, according to a count provided by the regional prefecture, lived in this camp which has taken on the appearance of a slum on the edge of the ring road in recent weeks.

Change of doctrine

The authorities' doctrine in the management of these camps changed during the evacuation of some 1,600 people straddling Paris and the Seine-Saint-Denis, notably at Porte de la Chapelle, on November 7.

Believing that these sites constituted an "anomaly" of the accommodation system, Christophe Castaner had then announced their evacuation before the end of 2019. Since then, no further resettlement on the Porte de la Chapelle has been possible thanks to an imposing device of the forces of order.
