04 February 2019The digital medium to be registered and the energy-saving light bulb come out, the electric bike, ginger and the web TV enter: thus Istat has revised the list of products that make up the reference basket for the detection of prices at consumption.

The 2019 basket used for the calculation of the Nic (for the entire national community) and Foi (for the families of blue-collar workers and white collars) indices includes 1,507 elementary products (1,489 in 2018), grouped into 922 products, in turn collected into 407 aggregates.

For the calculation of the HICP index (harmonized at European level), a basket of 1,524 elementary products is adopted (slightly widening compared to 1,506 in 2018), grouped into 914 products and 411 aggregates.

In detail, as regards the entry of products that have acquired greater relevance in household spending, the following should be noted: among the food goods, berries and ginger; in transport, electric bicycle and scooter sharing.

In addition, the headset with microphone (among audiovisual, photographic and IT equipment), the hoverboard (among sporting goods) and web TV (in the context of subscriptions to pay TV) also come into the basket.

To enrich the range of products that represent consolidated consumptions, the table, chair and outdoor furniture (among garden furniture), diapers and safety bar (among other medical products) and the electricity prices of the free market enter the basket. they support those of the higher protection regime in contributing to the estimation of inflation.
