The musical "Hamilton", the biggest hit on Broadway in the past five years, will hit theaters in 2021 as a performance, the Walt Disney studio announced on Monday.

Arriving on Broadway in August 2015, this musical which tells the story of Alexander Hamilton, one of the founding figures of the American nation, met with exceptional success in New York.

To date, the show has brought in $ 633 million in box office receipts for its New York production alone, and has been seen by 2.5 million spectators, according to Broadway.com.

He has also performed with other troupes for three years in Chicago, has been playing in London since 2017 and is currently touring the United States and Canada.

Production is planned in Australia, as well as in Germany.

The mixture of historical fresco with a rap soundtrack, hitherto unseen, has made "Hamilton" a phenomenon, attracting all generations.

The musical won 11 Tony awards in 2016, the awards given annually by Broadway professionals.

Disney said in a tweet that the film would show a performance of the show with the original cast, which included Lin-Manuel Miranda, producer, composer, songwriter and actor, in the title role.

The film's release is announced for October 15, 2021. Disney has not specified in which countries the film would be released, but the specialized site Variety talks about North America.

Asked by AFP about a possible exit to other markets, Disney did not act immediately.

The creator of "Hamilton", Lin-Manuel Miranda, is on the rise at the moment, because another of his musicals "In the Heights", has been adapted for cinema, and is due out in June.
