The Danish rider Jakob Fuglsang (Astana), winner in particular of the Critérium du Dauphiné and Liège-Bastogne-Liège in 2019, is the subject of an investigation by the anti-doping authorities of world cycling for alleged links with the sulphurous Italian doctor Michele Ferrari , Danish newspaper Politiken said on Sunday.

"CADF information indicates that Astana's rider Jakob Fuglsang is part of Michele Ferrari's doping company, and that his teammate Alexey Lutsenko was present during at least one meeting between them in Nice / Monaco", indicates a report from the anti-doping foundation (CADF), which handles doping controls for the International Cycling Union (UCI), according to Politiken.

"CADF has obtained information suggesting that Michele Ferrari continues to be involved in the doping of athletes from the Astana team, and that he went to Monaco and other places to meet the riders", continues the report, according to the same source.

Ferrari would have notably been present on the Tour of Catalonia in March 2019.

Fuglsang (34) recently extended his contract with Astana. Despite his retirement from a fall in the last week of the Tour de France, the Dane comes out of the most successful season of his career after his victories over Liège-Bastogne-Liège, the Critérium du Dauphiné and the Tour of Andalusia.

Italian doctor Michele Ferrari is suspended for life by the United States Anti-Doping Agency (Usada) for helping Lance Armstrong to take drugs.

Ferrari has also worked with the 2012 Olympic champion Alexandre Vinokourov, suspended for two years in 2007 for blood doping, and current sports director of Astana.
