The American company Uber announced that it had suspended the accounts of 240 users in Mexico who had been in contact with two drivers who transported a person suspected of having the new coronavirus.

Mexico has not reported any confirmed cases of the disease to date, which has killed more than 300 people in mainland China and infected more than 100 people outside of that country.

According to a statement on Saturday from the specialist in the reservation of cars with driver, the health authorities in Mexico City asked on January 31 for information about a user potentially infected with the virus. Uber replied that two drivers had transported the suspect and that since then 240 users had traveled with these drivers.

"We sent information to these two drivers and to 240 users about the temporary deactivation of their accounts," said the company.

For its part, the Mexican Ministry of Health explained to maintain its epidemiological surveillance over people likely to have been in contact with the potential carrier of the virus, identified as a tourist of Chinese origin, before his departure from the country.

"Among the people in contact identified so far, none have developed the symptoms of the disease more than ten days after exposure, more than the average time for incubation," said a report from the ministry.

Meanwhile, the Mexican government said Saturday it had evacuated 10 people from the Chinese city of Wuhan where the epidemic started in December.
