Algeria expressed its surprise at a statement by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, "in which he was attributed to the country's president, Abdul Majeed Tabun, a conversation that was taken out of context on an issue related to the history of Algeria."

The Algerian presidency said that it was surprised by the recent statements of the Turkish president, accusing him of having produced the president's speech
Abdul Majeed Tabun on its context.

The Algerian presidency said in a statement, on Saturday, that all the complicated issues related to the national memory have sanctity, and it has found special sensitivity among the Algerian people.

The statement pointed out that Erdogan's statements do not contribute to the efforts made by Algeria and France to resolve memory issues.

On Friday, Turkish media reported that Erdogan had asked the Algerian President, Tabun, to hand him documents relating to the French massacres during the colonial period of Algeria.

The media quoted Erdogan from a speech he delivered Friday to the leaders of the Justice and Development Party in the Turkish capital, Ankara: “I have informed the Algerian President Abdel Majid Taboun that the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, knows nothing about these massacres, and I will present him with these documents because they have carried out these massacres in the past. In Algeria ».

Erdogan added that "the Algerian president told me that France killed 5 million Algerians," noting that "we have to publish these documents so that French President Macron will remember that his country killed 5 million Algerians."

Erdogan met Tbon last Sunday in the Algerian capital, at the start of an African tour that led him to the Gambia and Senegal.

"President Tabun looks at France in a totally different way than he was before," Erdogan said on the presidential plane.
