The (false) suspense that has hovered over the past few weeks over François Bayrou's candidacy for the municipal elections in Pau (Pyrénées-Atlantiques), was lifted this Friday. At the end of a press conference organized at 4 p.m., the outgoing mayor confirmed that he would be a candidate for re-election.

"We have done a lot," he said during this press conference, disturbed by "yellow vests". The outgoing mayor assured that his 2014 program was completed "96%". "But there is still a lot to do," he added. For the moment, he has not yet discussed the composition of his list.

The president of MoDem was indicted in early December for "complicity in embezzlement of public funds" in the investigation into the allegedly fictitious jobs of assistants to MEPs from MoDem. An “unfounded” indictment assured his lawyer at the time. It remains to be seen whether it can weaken it in view of these elections.
