Ten sculptures by the master of surrealism Salvador Dali were stolen Thursday at dawn during the burglary of a gallery in Stockholm, told the owner of the premises to AFP.

The thieves broke the glass door of the Couleur gallery in the chic district of Östermalm, and took the works, estimated between 20,000 and 50,000 euros each, before fleeing aboard a vehicle, according to witnesses.

The bronze sculptures, which notably represent the famous soft watch by the Catalan artist and of which there are around 350 numbered copies worldwide, came from a Swiss collection and were on loan.

Peder Enström, interviewed by an AFPTV journalist in his gallery after the investigators' departure, estimates that "3, 4, 5 or even 6 people" could be at the origin of the theft.

"They did not take the certificates (of authenticity of the works), which is a good thing because it will be very difficult to sell the sculptures without these documents," he added.
