It is well known that public transport timetables in rural areas look very empty when it comes to the number of trips. In Lundsbrunn in Skaraborg, public transport is more than sparse, because there the bus timetable shows that there is a single ride during a weekday. At 09.52, those who live there can go by bus to the main town of Götene.

"High environmental goals"

But the solution for higher accessibility in the countryside is not just to put in more buses according to Sara Persson, who is project manager in the Västra Götaland region.

- When it comes to increasing bus traffic, it is not sustainable, neither financially nor for the climate, to drive more bus trips with low occupancy, says Sara Persson in a studio interview with SVT Nyheter Väst's reporter Nicolina Eriksson.

According to Sara Persson, it is important to think new and different in order to find new solutions when it comes to public transport.

- We have high environmental goals in Sweden and we want to be part of this effort. Not only on technical solutions but also behavioral solutions to make people travel more sustainable.
