The MoDem gave its support Tuesday evening to Benjamin Griveaux (LREM) for the municipal ones in Paris, judging its list "most able to gather" and by warning against the danger of the division.

"Gathered, victory is possible. Divided, defeat is assured," insists the centrist party in an allusion to the dissidence of Cédric Villani.

The MoDem "would have liked this rally for change to be necessary, among the majority and beyond, during these months of pre-campaign. This was not possible. However, the urgency requires to resume this movement".

"Today the list which is most able to gather is that led by Benjamin Griveaux", adds the party, ally of LREM within the presidential majority.

They opted for the latter, while Cédric Villani is preparing to be excluded from the LREM movement on Wednesday evening.

According to an Odoxa-CGI study for Le Figaro published on Sunday, Benjamin Griveaux collected 16% of the voting intentions in the first round, and Cédric Villani 10%, far behind the outgoing mayor PS Anne Hidalgo (23%) and the LR Rachida Dati (20 %), while the ecologist David Belliard would collect 14.5% of the vote.

The municipal elections take place on March 15 and 22.
