As a result of the large police reorganization in 2015, many police officers chose to leave the profession. Between 2015 and 2019, 346 police stopped in Region South, for a reason other than retirement.

Mattias Svensson, group chief and external commander in Blekinge northeast Skåne, chose to leave the job as a police officer in April 2018, after his then job disappeared in connection with the reorganization.

- I loved going to work, but when I couldn't continue with that service, I became most angry and bitter, he says.

"Hard to be without it"

Mattias Svensson got a position within the Armed Forces. But even though he was happy with his new job, it only took a year before he went back to the police profession.

- If you were once a police officer, it is difficult to be without it. So when I saw that there was a job out for Group Chief / External Commander, I applied for it, says Mattias Svensson.

He knows that there are more police in Blekinge who also chose to return to the profession after retiring.

Better conditions today

According to Mattias Svensson, the mood in the police is more positive today than when he left the profession.

- It has gotten much better. We have better resources and some parts that did not get good at the reorganization have gone back, he says.

What parts are you thinking about?

- For example, Blekinge was divided into two different police areas during the reorganization. Now Blekinge is an area together with northeastern Skåne, which I find very positive, says Mattias Svensson.
