According to Bastrykin, on January 1, the Second Additional Protocol to the European Convention on Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters entered into force in Russia, which allows the creation of international investigation groups to investigate criminal cases on general topics.

“Now a mechanism is being worked out to implement its provisions and closer cooperation with the Central Office of the Justice Offices of the Lands of Germany to investigate the crimes of National Socialism in Ludwigsburg,” he said.

Bastrykin expressed confidence that cooperation in this direction “will give an additional impetus” and will accelerate the investigation of crimes.

“The facts of criminal acts based on the ideas of racial superiority, Nazism, even after a long time, should not go unnoticed and unpunished,” the head of the department said.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin emphasized that the Nazi crimes during the Great Patriotic War did not have a statute of limitations and future generations should keep and protect the truth about those events.
